Greetings

Hi there!

I'm Michael Feld from Oceanblue Divers, and this is our brand new blog, "The Dive Evangelist," a blog for those who live to dive (and those that love them, of course!).

I'm writing to welcome you, tell you about Oceanblue Divers, introduce this blog, and hopefully get you involved. If you love to dive, are interested in learning how, want to find out about all issues relating to our oceans and conservation, you've come to the right place. We look forward to meeting you, our fellow dive "evangelists," and hearing what you have to say! I will also introduce another Michael, Michael Strickland, who will be publishing, running and moderating this blog.

First things first, so let me begin at the beginning, as it were:

Oceanblue Divers is a club, based in New York City (but with members from around the world). The club was started in June of 2006, and as of this writing, we have over 500 members (and growing daily!).

As a club, we are dedicated to the following:

A little more about us:

Our club URL is:

www.oceanbluedivers.net

Our club is currently hosted on meetup.com (with links on the above site to our meetup.com site). The club meets several times a month at various locations in NYC, and we host a variety of local social activities every month (happy hours, bowling nights, club nights, etc.), so if you're not from NYC but are planning to be in town, check our calendar out and come on down and join us.

If you are from NYC, well, then you have no excuse, click that link and sign up today! Membership is free and signing up takes about a minute, total.

Another major part of what we do at Oceanblue Divers: Dive. Big surprise, right?

We run group dive trips to all parts of the world. At the moment we have trips to Cozumel (February 28-March 4), Bonaire (April 21-28, but sold out!) and a really exciting two-week trip to Sulawesi, Indonesia (June 25-July 7). All the details are on our site, so check them out and let us know if you'd like to join us! There are other trips in the works as well, so stay tuned.

We also do local diving with local dive operators and boats that hit all the good sites in "Wreck Valley" (as our local NYC oceans are referred to), and have events and trips out to our local lakes and quarries, including Dutch Springs in Bethlehem, PA.

That's the short version of who we are and what we do, so please feel welcome to click on the link above and join us. We're looking forward to meeting you.

As I said at the beginning of this post, I'd also like to introduce Michael Strickland, who will be responsible for this blog. Michael is a seasoned diver hailing from beautiful San Diego, California. He's going to be digging up interesting articles and writing about things of concern to all of us as divers, and indeed as humans. Our oceans are currently under siege, fish are disappearing, reefs are threatened, all of which digs at the foundation of human existence. It is our intention to talk about our love of this sport, the equipment, and all the permutations of the sport that divers love to discuss, as well as raising awareness about the issues that impact the sport we love, and the oceans we dive in.

Please join us here and feel more than welcome to join the club, no matter where you live, because there is no doubt that you'll be in NYC at some point and perhaps want to join us at an event, or you'll want to join up with us on a trip to dive in some part of the world that you either love or have never been to.

Again, greetings, and feel free to email me directly if you have questions or comments.

Looking forward to hearing from and getting wet with you all,

Michael
